InterPlay has now reached three New Zealand centres, Christchurch, Auckland and most recently Wellington.

Play dates continue in Christchurch, with our next afternoon coming up on Sunday July 3rd, from 1 – 5pm at the Addington Haven.

A small but dedicated group, InterPlay NZ are delighted to welcome newcomers. For the rest of the year, the Haven dates are August 21st and December 4th. October is missing because leader, Belinda Meares will be at the Leaders Gathering in Adelaide.

The latest Auckland play was on May 1st, at the community performing arts venue, TAPAC, which has become our regular and much loved space. The next Auckland dates are July 24th and October  2nd.

Branching out into Wellington was a big step, and at this stage a one-off. Belinda Meares was invited to lead a long InterPlay session at the Drama NZ conference, for drama teachers, on 22nd April. She writes, "We were a large group and it was very gratifying that conference goers chose to try InterPlay (all were new to it), as there were lots of other options on the programme. It seems they were happy with their choice – the feedback was very positive, and moving in fact."

"Most of all, as busy teachers under a lot of pressure to deliver their curriculum and juggle priorities, the participants told me they appreciated the chance to indulge in unpressured play, to take the time to reflect and share their noticings, and to stretch into areas – such as playing with song - where they didn’t feel so assured. For the finale we created two witnessed sound- movement-story ensembles,  each very different and each yielding some uproarious and magical moments."

Supporting Belinda at the conference was Anna Coleman, who is a speech and drama coach from Napier. Anna has started the InterPlay Life Practice Program with the group in Adelaide. This is wonderful! She and Belinda are aiming, slowly but surely, to keep spreading and deepening the awareness and practice of InterPlay in New Zealand. SummerPlay 2017 is in their sights!

Congratulations Belinda. New Zealand here they come. InterPlayers everywhere. Singing, gibberishing, rolling and rejoicing in stillness. Reaching out to community. Way to go!
